Ive just went and bought a new set of 265 70 r16 bfg goodrich a/t tyres for my disco 2 and i was just wondering what is a comfortable psi to set them at, ive got 36 psi in them and there rock hard and real bad handling on the road, much help would be great thanks

Should have less in the front. Try 30psi.
 
I think you'll find it in the hand book, or did you go with that? There is definitiely a diff front to back.
 
Here are the recommended pressures... and tyre sizes too for which the vehicle's engine management and all the other electronic systems were ''calibrated" from factory, exceeding with more that 5% those dimensions without proper tuning for that will lead to an unhappy end for one reason or another

Not easy and it's a too long story, i had many posts about that... in a nutshell the cooling has to be enhanced and the fuel map addapted to the VSS(vehicle speed signal) input as to keeo the torque and EGT within decent limits, addapt the diffs or transfer box ratio to them eventually... which means that with big tyres an EGT gauge is compulsory.
