I have an automatic disco '03 reg that is stuck in 1st gear - won't go above 3000 revs! How do I sort this out? Please help!

Update!! Had comp. plugged in no fault codes. Mech. took it for a drive and reckons it is stuck in a gear. On idle it sounds like a tractor( no **** takes)

Is there any oil in it?

Does the oil need topping up or changing?

Does the selector move back and forth easily?
