Hi,I recently purchased a 1996 Discovery 300tdi it's a Japanese Import,my problem is to do with the stereo,i've took the current stereo out because of course it's on Japanese frequencies and purchased a new head unit from here in the Uk.Power to the stereo is no problem have sorted that but because its a Japanese Import it has some sort of Radio Amplifier it connects too before it goes to the speakers and at the mo because of this i'm not getting sound from the speakers(believe again because the amps a Japanese model, different frequencies etc). What I presume I need to do is bypass(disconnect) the Jap Radio Amp and connect the wires directly to the speakers, but I can't find where this Jap Radio Amp is!!! Can anyone help as I don't want to have to take the car to bits to find this rotten amp!!!!
Thanks Tony

Hi,

sorry to hear of your troubles.I too have a Jap import but fortunately I didnt have to remove the existing stereo as a frequency shifter from Ebay for under a tenner allows you to tune into UK stations & connects inline to your aerial input.

Unfortunately you've already bought a replacement head unit so I cant
help with the amp location although it may be up behind the glove box ??

Cheers.

Thanks for your post,I've found the Radio Amp now it is located on the passenger side on the left just behind the Glovebox,so your guess was good! Now I have to sort the wires out but they're in a bloody awkward spot to get too,as I really don't want to have to take the Dash off etc!!! I'm going to bypass the Radio Amplifier completely so the wires go direct to the speakers, having looked at Jap and Uk radio wiring diagrams the UK version doesn't have this Radio Amp the Jap one has they just go direct. So many wires though!!!!
Thanks again for your reply,
Tony
