Hi there,

We have a disco 2 with soggy sunroof seals so took the plunge and bought a pair of these “EEQ500010 - Sunroof Seal - Upper Frame Seal for Land Rover Discovery 2” . No matter what I try the sunroof refuses to close properly. Forget about a watertight seal I can see daylight between the glass and the rubber. The new seals stand proud of the plastic outer frame by a couple of mm. So when the glass is in the closed position it too protrudes above the plastic outer frame. It appears that the rubber is too thick or has too much resistance to allow the glass to close. I have tinkered in vain with the motor hoping that it might be at fault.

Am I missing something obvious? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I literally did this yesterday.

After you reseal and refit everything here's how I adjusted how much it closes.

Refit handle and close until it stops and you need to press the button to release.

At that point unscrew the handle screws a bit and jiggle it down but not off.

Then turn the handle (with no resistance) anti clockwise slightly and push back up into the mechanism.

Then tighten the screws and turn the handle until it clicks again, it should be a bit tighter.

Repeat as needed.

Hope this makes sense.

My electric sunroofs and I have an understanding. I don't open them and in return they don't leak. Also having a hard roof tent permanently mounted over them helps. ;)
Welcome to the site. I you tell us something about your Disco here and post your query in the Discovery section, you will fully access the not inconsiderable weight of Disco knowledge on the site.

Oh yes what I wouldn't give to have closure? Apologies but I should have said mine are electric.
This morning I again tried but the seals just look too deep for the frame and often as not when I tried to close the roof the front edge of the glass hits the protruding rubber seal and refuses to close. Even with the glass screwed to the frame on our workbench the glass at the rear just sits well up above .the frame. With the old one back in place everything works just fine. I paid £70.00 for these two BritPart seals which isn't insignificant for two small pieces of rubber. Many thanks for your help.

Are yours electric?
I’ve changed the motors around thinking it might be the motor but with no joy. With regards fitting the seals the small solid base extrusion must go into the outer frame with the softer curved outer meeting the glass?

Mine are manual.

I'll try to get a pic today but I just copied from the old ones and added some sealant to the bottom.

It did take some doing to get it in properly all the way around

The seals are so much higher than the originals that they prevent the sunroof from going into the closed position. The glass meets the rubber and the motor stops.
It also requires considerable force to compress the rubber so that you can actually attach the sunroof in the first place. Flummoxed!
