Hi, as title says.....car has been squatting overnight. After checking/cleaning pipework (have already changes air bags), I've detached the valve body from the compressor via the central pipe and detected air exiting the valve body through the pipe going to compressor.

Finally my question, should the valve body be leaking air back to the compressor?
Also does this suggest that the compressor exhaust valve is also leaking as I'm guessing that this should be capable of sealing off any back pressure from the valve body?

Any help much appreciated

air should not be returning to pump and no the pump is not designed for backward pressure
 
Hi, the middle pipe is "air supply/exhaust pipe" so it's not strange to come air through it ....if there is no leaking point along the compressor assy the air which is coming through this pipe cant leave the system. It could be a faulty exhaust valve though. To isolate the fault find a nut or something with the same thread with this pipe and clog the middle orifice of the valve body. if the leak is somewhere in the compressor assy(and not untill/in one of the bags) then the back will not drop.....at least u'll now where to search hereinafter. Good luck

Clog at 13 and u'll isolate the bags + air supply valve block from the rest......then u'll see

No offence but i might say u're wrong....the air is coming back quite often through this pipe when the system wants to drop some air through the exhaust valve which is connected to it:eek:.

I think the valve body should be stopping the backflow of air but isnt, though I also believe that the exhaust port should be the final shutoff point. I think i'll try to "bodge" the valves bu applying fresh rubber and see if this helps.
Just got the price for replacing the unit but it looks as if I may as well just carry on using the car until the compressor fails and then buy the whole replacement unit

Hi, you may be right but the car is behaving 'exactly' as it did last week which was before I replaced the air bags. plus I've sprayed the new bags with 'leak detector' and cannot see anything. I'm just about to try and apply rubber patches to the valve seat area, will see if that stops the valve leaking

Latest update (for anyone who cares :yawn: )
I managed to stop the valve block letting air return to the compressor (when all electrical conections are disconected etc). did this by 'sanding' the rubber on the face plate of the valve until the previous "o" mark faded away.
Replace valve body, started car, inflated bags, detached valve body and tested for leak by placing centre pipe (13 in the diagram above) in a bowl of water........no more leak!!

Now the big test is will this fix the problem, only time will tell!!
 
Fingers crossed...just make sure that they'll let air back when they have to......anyway if the back will drop again despite what u did dont quit ...youre managing well the problem.

I've found another leak in the valve body....air is coming out of the electrical connector on one of the valves. Does anyone know the route it may be taking

U can try with some kind of liquid steel or somethin.....u cant make it worst....if no joy find a second hand assy and replace just the valve block.

cool story bro but you are full of ****, the question was should air be leakink back, - and no it shouldn't, not unless the exhaust valve is stuffed in some way, which in this case it more than likely is.

Everybody is so nervous down under?, be civilized man.....idont want to pollute mr. Chris Lax's thread with polemics on this....by the way if u disconnect pipe nr 13 from the valve block as mr. Chris Lax did the exhaust valve will be out of the scheme so it doesnt matter if it's stuffed or not and it has nothing to do with leaking back, it just releases the air when the SLABS ECU gives the output for that. The back of his car dropped due to the leak near the electrical connector, not from other reason.

U better learn how this system works before u offend others mate:mad:.......i rest my case ...for good
