Hi.
I've got a problem with my 300 tdi disovery and any help would be great !
I've started to get a lot of smoke out of the exhaust. But it only happens some times and only when I gently accelerate, if I floor it it clears up. It also has loss of power when it smokes. The engine is I'm good nic does over 30mpg but has done 150,000 miles now. I've put injector cleaner through it, it helped but hasn't solved the problem. I think that it could be it needs new injectors what do you think ? Any help would be great thanks !!!!!

sounds like you're on the right track there...

I would whip em out and get em tested
 
Assuming air filter and hoses are good... but i would assume blockages here would not rectify themselves by asking for more airflow!
 
I think that the hoses are ok, but will have a look. The air filter is a nearly new k&n so should be ok.
 
what colour is the smoke? I'm guessing it's a hose fault on the air side of things rather than being a fuel fault.
 
Is that daft EGR valve blanked off? they can partially fail and give the problems you describe, if it aint blanked off.........get it done.
Also, is your disco an auto??
 
The smoke is black. The egr is not blanked off. Do you think that I should ? If I do will it still get through the mot on emissions ?

Get it blanked, if you are a bit handy with tin snips and a drill, make your own. And after blanking it give the engine a damn good work out, it'll most likely smoke like a bugger for a couple of miles but it will clear.
Yes it WILL pass an MOT with it blanked.

Ok will do. Hope that works as will be cheaper than new injectors !! I can't help but think that the bolts holding it in are seized though. The joys !!!!

You don't have to take the EGR off mate, just blank it. Do a search on here, loads of info.
 
my td5 seems a bit sluggish, where is the egr valve on it? still learnin on the disco,[reformed gaylander owner]
 
I removed the egr on mine, i got a kit from fleabay (new top hose, gaskets blank,bolts,etc) cost about £18 and fitted a k&n panel filter, it will now pull away in 2nd without boggging down and will drive from about 20mph in 4th, it would never have done that before so well worth doing, And its been through 2 mots like this with no probs!!
 
Ok will give it a try. I've just taken the hoses off and there is alot of carbon in the hose after the egr. I guess that means it's not working right.What is the best kit to get ? Paddocks have one for 5 quid, is there a better one???

Paddocks 'kit' at a fiver aint bad but it's so easy to make your own.......the choice is yours. :D
