BUT
If the vehicle was factory fitted with ABS then that will likely be on its original build sheet. Removal would be a modification which I would think would need to be declared to your prospective insurers.
Whether they would choose to insure at the same rate as an unmodified car, a higher cost or not at all is something only they could answer.

"You must inspect any ABS systems fitted.

When testing ABS equipped vehicles, the road wheels that are lifted off the ground should not be allowed to rotate when the ignition is on. This can cause the ABS system to indicate a fault which may require specialist equipment to rectify.

If the ABS has been intentionally rendered inoperative, the whole system must be removed. This does not apply to sensor rings or other ABS components which are an integral part of another component, such as a brake disc or drive shaft.

It’s not permissible to remove or disable the ABS from a vehicle first used on or after 1 January 2010. Not all vehicles first used on or after 1 January 2010 will have ABS, so the failure only applies where the system has obviously been removed."

So as his is 1995 he can remove the ABS legally.
But he'd have to really know what he is doing.;)

This is true, most insurers seem to frown upon DIY mechanics messing around with the braking system, strangely enough I cant think why? Anyway I was just thinking of the easier option, might well work out cheaper to fix the system.

You could always ring them and get quotes. Or ring your existing insurer and ask then what the cost would be if you did it. If it would be more than the cost of a repair then no brainer.
Many 4x4s of that era didn't have ABS, my 300tdi Disco 1 for instance, which dates from 1998. So I doubt it'll be a big problem. Do some digging you may well find the lower level RRs from that year didn't have it anyway.

I've not even started on the project yet, just trying to get a plan in my head for what i'm doing to the thing.:p

Early on in the thread you said that the ABS worked fine, so why remove it?
If it aint broke ........

AIUI from the first post the plug wasn't plugged in to anything, which begs the question of - if it is for the abs - how the abs is working?

Agreed and its under the passenger seat and car is on coils so that makes me think EAS sensors

The EAS ECU is located under the drivers seat, directly above the compressor and valveblock which is mounted on the chassis. :)

The OP is missing his ABS ECU for whatever reason, i'd imagine finding one won't be too difficult.

ABS wouldn't be working without the ECU and it should have the ABS warning on the dash unless the bulb has been removed. ;)

Ah ok I was getting confused with P38 apologies but still dont get how ABS is working unlss of course as you say the bulb was removed
