The snow is here and just when I might really need my P38 she's playing silly beggars!

Anyone recommend a garage with diagnostics locally?

Over the last couple of days I've had a few problems all come out together. First was a very slight rough running, notchy gear change occassionally (3rd - 4th only). Very quickly followed by a soft EAS fault (EAS lights did Christmas tree impression) with EAS fault on message screen. EAS continues to work as it should, has stayed up for 3/4 days, levels as it should just the lights on and can't adjust manually. Also on one occassion LPG went made - as if it lost power and reset itself, been fine ever since. Rough running (doesn't make any difference whether on gas or petrol) has got worse and then up pops gearbox fault message. But does smooth out above 2000 revs - just feels like going to stall when you lift off the pedal.

I'm at the end of renovating our house, have bathroom & kitchen to fit, driveway is a lake of mud, heating needs finishing, house needs painting and I need to do the day job :)

First thought was battery/alternator related but checked battery when not running (12.4v) and at idle (14.7v minimum) - so assuming both good and no loss from dodgy cables between both. Also disconnected MAF as rough running felt like that - but no difference in how she ran.

No sign of sluggish battery when starting and the symptoms are there hot or cold. Took her for a 20 mile run and she seemed to clear the rough running by half way and, after a restart, didn't throw a gearbox fault on way back.

So looking for a sensible garage that knows a 2000 4.6 v8 (Thor) with lpg and might be able to plug it in and give me an answer by magic! Or better still if anyone can recognise the symptoms and give me a pointer?

Thanks

Trevor

check your fuse box for burning smell. pull every relay 1 at a time and look under them for burning something electrical is on the fritzs

Dave

Thanks, had already had a quick look in fuse box and nothing obvious. Have pulled each relay this morning and no signs of heat, burning or melting.
Next step is to test each relay in turn? Can I do this by removing whilst running or will that just play even more merry hell with the electrics?

Time for an update and bump, got some time today to have a play.

First off - started no problem after sitting since Thursday unused. So pretty sure not battery/alternator related.
checked fuse box for visible signs of overheating/burning and nothing. The main fuses showed light heating marks but nothing else. tested all fuses.
Removed fuse box, took out circuit board and again no sign of damage on the visible parts. What's the likelihood of damage between the two circuit boards and nothing showing elsewhere?

It's a lot for a new fuse box without an outward sign of damage?

Will refit fuse box tomorrow and see if cleaning connections has changed anything. Also need to factor in random replacement of relays in case one has failed.

Ruling out battery, alternator, fuse box am I looking at a dodgy BECM? I'll re-check the connections first but can I test it in a simple way or is there somewhere else i should rule out first?

Thanks

Hi Trev. I had the rough running not so long ago. Rough idle and slippy gearbox. New MAF sensor sorted it immediately. As you have disconnected the MAF sensor and the rough running didn't change then I'd change for a new one. I paid £26 from the Landrover centre near me in Liverpool. The EAS fault sounds familiar too. Mine did exactly the same. Message on dash (EAS fault) and amber warning but EAS worked ok. All lights on height display. Turns out my driver pack was on its way out. When connecting my diagnostics - fault was 'pressure constantly high'. Check out my Spurious EAS input thread. Loads of help and guidance on it from Wammers and Datatek and others. Got a used one off ebay for £20 and all ok. Don't know if you are interested but my diagnostic cable is for sale (£10) which I bought off ebay inclusive of the software on cd (freeware). Hope this helps.

Paul - thanks sounds very similar. Took a drive tonight to shop. On way back disconnected MAF and she actually ran better. Think that nails the rough running, MAF ordered.

Not a lot of driver packs about so might take a while to find one. And thanks for the offer of a cable but i have one. It's just buried somewhere in a 20' container following our house move :)

Feeling happier :clap2:

MAF arrived, fitted and no more erratic running :)

Now to find an EAS Driver........

Thank you

Theres a new on on fleebay £229:eek: or a used one £45
or try and get a complet unit and rebuild the pump and block and have a spare.
