hello, everyone. I just bought a 99 range rover and I guess you guys call it a P38. It is not the supercharged one, it is the regular one, but I don't know if it is a S or a SE. Does anyone know? Anyway, I have only one(I hope) main serious problem. It won't shift!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I shift it from 1 to 2 to 3 and then D, it seems to work fine. However, when it is just in regular D, the truck acts as it is in neutral. I was thinking maybe a linkage or tranny sensor problem. If anyone has a better idea, it would help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, for the answer to your question see...

Ashcroft Transmissions

If you bought this car from a dealer I would take it back and get them to sort it out.

I take it by the fact you dont know what model you have it doesnt have any markings on the back?? What does the V5 document say?? Whats the interior like, if you take some photos it might help.

What engine does it have, the diesel or the petrol??

Hi mate,

its sound to me like your Gearbox Selector switch is shot. Althoughbe very carefull with anything to do with your gearbox. Ours caught fire because of a faulty breather!!!!

thanks everyone. I bought it from a private owner for 5,000 dollars and other than the shifting problem, it is awesome! It has a few little things like the headliner, and a little rip in the passenger seat, that need to be fixed, but seems to be a fantastic buy. How hard do you think it is to fix the shifter sensor? Thanks again.
