Hi people,
Just picked my Freelander and on the journey home this random loud hiss came from some where by our feet. I believe it maybe the brake servo since this is something around that area that contains air.

The brakes seem to be fine though? It doesn't appear to be linked to braking as such more of a random affair thus far.

After doing some reading I know there are tests which and checking of hoses, which I'll perform tommorow.

So I was interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience, most other peoples seemed linked to some system.

Kind Regards and thanks in advance, Stefan.

My FBH doesn't 'hiss' and it definitely doesn't make any noise near my feet either!!!

I didn't think the FBH was supposed to hiss like that. The sound is like compressed air escaping. I'm waiting for my gf to drive the car home then I can check it, until then service the hoover!lol

is it a td4 ?? could be split intercooler hose

or could be partially jammed recirculate valve/flap, have you tried turning recirc on and then off ?

badly fitted pollen filter ?

I've just been out in it quickly for fun. I've noticed there seems to be a link between the air conditioning. I can put the blowers on fine, as soon as I touch the Air Con button the noise starts up slowly for about 5 seconds and then fades away.

Definately coming from the near side must be close to the firewall because I can't tell whether it's close outside or inside.

this is interesting, mine makes a hissing sound when I've had the air con on, then turn the engine off. lasts for about 5 seconds then fades away...

seems to come from the near side footwell, couldn't tell if it was inside or outside though...

Think it's noise from the expansion valve, a sign of low refrigerant in the AC. I had this when my gas was low but almost completely went after a top up.

after doing further research it does appear that low AC gas could give a sound that I have described. When I get paid I'll get the monkeys at kwik fit to do it, whilst I know they're supposed to be monkeys, I also know they have an automatic machine for the job. They can't possible mess it up!

oh they can, they can, they can.

never ever underestimate the sheer stupidity of a kwik fit fitter, especially if you get a yoof.

I am sure there are lots of perfectly competent and skilled kwik fit fitters, just I've never met one.

and they got turned over on watchdog a while back for recommending un-necessary work, sprouting general lies etc.

load of old bollocks about can't allow you to leave with your vehicle it is soooooo dangerous etc, obliged to carry out a full safety check on your vehicle every time it goes on the ramp and so on.

The KwikFit fekkers put 4 new tyres on my girlfriends car and then failed it on the MOT for having them fitted the wrong way round

..... all on the same day in the same depot !
