Hello from the dark side, I now have to travel alot further to work than I used to so my lovely shiny defender is costing me a small fortune :( I'm considering changing it, and being a Landy fan I want something with good mpg but still has a green oval! Can anyone give me a rough idea how many miles you get to £65 out of a td4 freelander 1? I currently get 300 which works out as 29mpg I think? Can anyone experiment for me please? :)

Hi. I run a 55 plate TD4 auto and average about 30mpg overall That said I do not have a particularly light right foot as I tend to drive with enjoyment being more important than improved mpg and boredom! On a good run driving sensibly it creeps up to about 33 -35 but I don't think I have ever exceeded that even when I did try boredom for a while. Best of luck in your quest - santefe999:welcome2:

Thats pretty bad, I get 32-35 out of my disco on a long run

20 round town

Got 600 out of a tank not so long ago

You'll get betterer mpg from a manual if your happy with a manual. There's not much boot space in a Freelander. You can fold down the rear seats if needed. Failing that allow your pig to ride with you in the front.

Aye manual I'm after and preferably a commercial, don't need many passenger seats haven't got that many friends! Haha, is 40 mpg achievable? I travel now 95% motorway 50 mile round trip now, and light off road and trailering on weekends

My first Freelander was a 2002 TD4 Manual - I now have a 2005 TD4 Auto - I get 2mpg less around town - on motorways I get the same as before.

Realistically expect mid to high 30s. If you are running steady speed on motorways you might hit 40.

Since I did the EGR bypass, the roverron Synergy 2, new pcv mod, and fitted the silicone turbo hoses I have more power and more fun. :D :D

Once the novelty of having real acceleration on tap has worn off, and I've stopped 'booting it' just to show how well it goes now, I'm able to get 38/39 mpg most of the time.

On a motorway journey, without too many pigs on board, it's now an easy 40mpg+ :)

By the way there's almost no difference in usable load space between a 2 door with the seats down and a commercial except your pig will get a better view I suppose.

I get 33mpg from my 2001 td4 auto which isn't bad as most of the mileage is around town. Would think 40 mpg would be quit poss on decent motorway at a steady speed. Just got to have that light right foot with you.
