No experience of a runaway. But I doubt pressing the brake pedal would stop a runaway. Do you have the 2.4 or 2.2 so I can have a look in the workshop manual re the pedal sensor. What are You thoughts about the runaway comments?

2.4 puma. Any help is great! ThanksNo experience of a runaway. But I doubt pressing the brake pedal would stop a runaway. Do you have the 2.4 or 2.2 so I can have a look in the workshop manual re the pedal sensor.
Mine (1996 300Tdi) had a runaway nearly two years ago. Mrs was driving and stopped it with a brake and stall combo in the panic created by the noise of the high revs.Cheers sounds sensible

Hi
Don’t think the Puma has a solenoid - I had someone suggest a wiring problem....perhaps in the break lights
I’ll update ya - same if you find something drop me messageI also have a 2.4. Could be a similar issue so any info great - if i can guide the garage that saves a few £££

Cheers
Sorry, mate. I was actually replying to Bdwarb1. But, obviously you can do the samethanks - will do on the weekend
Hi been in for a service, had it on a code reader and had the ignition switch changed. It’s back in Thursday for the drive belt and I’ll mention the ignition problem again. I had some advice that it was a wiring issue. It’s jusy annoying - the engine is running fine and not increasing revs or anything.‘Brake’
Deffo get it checked out, you do not want a runaway but it will probably be a wiring thing, have you had it connected up to a code reader to see if any faults have been thrown up?
Not sure what you mean but the trailer light on the dash should flash once when you put the indicators on when a trailer is not connected, and at each flash of the indicators when a trailer is connected. The only thing I have changed are the lights - all around and a new switch that came with the lights. The old switch was for a trailer also (indicator would flash and the trailer light would come on)...thought it might be related....might swop over again.
CheersFound this info on the brake pedal sensors which might help your investigation. The sensors are located behind a plastic cover above the pedal, it should pull / wiggle off (sounds rude) to reveal the switches. I feel sure the problem is connected with the brake switches / ECM, as pressing the brake stops your injun. Attachment is for the 2.2 engine. 2.4 probably the same but you will need to verify by inspection. If you get diagnostics on it let me know the fault codes.
My defender has done 67000. It seems a common problem but it’s different wiring issues. Some scary comments on here! I am driving still. A runaway does not need the ignition and it’s not about the electrics but other problems.....also rare! It’s easy to scare.
