firstable like i said last time i m appologies for my english as a french a i just move fews month ago to london south, i m still not so good.
So i had a land rover discovery 300tdi xs 1997 bought near leeds 2 years ago.Lovely car ,but since fews back to france, i feel more and more the gap on the steering.Then i decide to change all the direction from the drive shaft to the H/D adjustable Drag Link after the steering box , i change the 2 off them.
So to help me i bring the car to small garage where i m living now and that fella is nice with so mutch work .Everyone calling him and come to see him to fixe them car.And he fixing anycar but is not a prop garage .i m mean if you payed you not gonna have invoice after the work.Well, so that guy was did evrything and i payed him but the car was still very bad with the direction, so i bring the car to do a tracking of the 4 wheel and then they call me back to say that the steering box is not align with the wheel.
So i bring the car and now that guy still have the car since 4 days and i m afraid he doen t know really what is doing with my landy.
I suppose to pick it up my son in paris with the car saturday, so any advice guys to help me and where can i bring the car to be sure evrything will fixed and safe???

Nice that a Frenchman has the same LandRover disease that has infected so many of us Englishmen. But I think in your situation I would contact your LR dealer(look on landrover.com) and get them to do it properly. Also see if there is a Discovery DIY manual in Frech. Hope this helps, Bon Voyage!!

eh he need to have a look at his steering box not visit a main dealer ,
have someone check for play in the steering box ,
avoir quelqu'un tester le boîtier de direction, c'est un défaut commun
 
but i change the steering box it s ew one from paddock



Bonjour Chris, à mon avis vous avez deux chose à régler:

1. Le géométrie - faite par le barre arrière l'essieu avant; et

2. Le réglage de volant - faite par le barre avant l'essieu avant.


Le deuxième n'est pas trop important, mais le premier oui, ça c'est vraiment important pour la sécurité.

Pour bien faire le géométrie vous devez trouvez qqn qui a le machin pour faire géométrie 4 roux.

Si t'a besoin de plus, n'hésitez pas de me contacter.

I think that he said the steering wheel don't point straight ahead -

could be drag link needs winding in/out ?
 
oui c est exaxtement ca . j ai recuperer ma voiture et c est une catastrophe , elle presque impossible a conduire.savez vous si je peux la reparerer moi meme ou bien avez vous une idee d un garage ou je pourrais l amener ou une peronne peut etre??

6am in the morning and i didn t slept.i hate when my car is not runningand on top of that i have a dte line to dix my car.Sunday i m suppose to pick up my sun in paris for his vacation in uk ... he love lodon and he just 10 years old , ireally don t want to desapointed him.The other solution will be to book train ticket or plane ticket but last minute that will be more expensive than to fix my car.
So i decide to react the plan is.
A/ i m call first some garage like in brixton hill if they can take my car today..

B/i will try do doing evrything by myself , like we said in France "on est jamais mieux servi que par sois meme" that s mean in english
If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!
So i was reading last nignt in many landrover club on the net and i call my friend in norway too, whose knows pretty well the land rover. And i realise they all talking about this hard point in the steering box.I do remember when i m driving i can fell this hard point and to keep my car straight on the road , i must put my steering vertical.

c/ drive , find the hard point and put i gaffeur tape as a mark on the steering.then will park the car drive to kepp that mark on the top and drive back just few cm to be sure my whell will be straight.

d/ I will go under the car and i will move the bal joint from the direction bar and then i will turn my steering completly to right and to the left and i willl compt how many turn i can do.i will devise by twoo and that will be the center of my steering and i hope is gonna be the same than the mark i did.

e/ i will put back the the bar on the steering box.

f/ i will mesure the difference beteween my 2 front wheel just to see if the parallele , and if not i will ajust the bar

same thing with the bar with the suspension.

g/ i will check my rear wheel too

h/ then i will come to moe my drive shat and before i willput a mark on the steering box in case if i need to move this one . like that i can always come back to the main position.
i/put my steering straight horizontal and then fix it..

j/ drive test.

k/ yoga classe

l/ appointement ats for tracking the wheel

m/ bring he car to a real garage to check if evrythings is ok..

ho yes i almost forgot someone can tell me , if i go up 2 inch on the suspention and srings on my disco 1 should i must change the panhard too and the raduis arm?

you but steering box central ,then center steering wheel either by removing steering wheel and refitting or by removing and refitting the ujs between steering colounm and box ,then by driving a short distance to check you can adjust drag link to re centralise steering wheel
