You haven't said if the smoke smells of paraffin.

If it does, then it's more likely to be a timing issue.

I didn't take too much notice in the smell.
Can't even say i can remember what parrafin smells like !!!

Hoping it does though,

UPDATE TIME.... AND GOOD NEWS.

They've checked the timing and the fueling etc and no problems. The upshot of it is that it is turbo related as i first thought, but not the turbo itself. It's actually one of the airflow pipes from the turbo that has started de laminating inside and is causing a restriction under power by collapsing inward even though the pipe looks fine from outside.
They say they've not come across it too often, but the new landy trained mechanic they have has seen it before so they took the pipe of and drove it down the road with no issue at all. Pipe back on and prob again. NEW PIPE ORDERED.

I've now asked them to sort the towing electrics that keep blowing fuses each time i plug onto a trailer. Hopefully it'll be back on the drive tomorrow.

Next thing after that is sorting the vibrating and were in the right direction.

PHEWWWWWWWW

yeh.
He was always kinda off the hook, but at least i don't have to ask him if he let it get too hot, in a way that won't offend. DIFFICULT.

Gotta wait for the bill next lol. Not that i mind too much. Just glad she still lives.

No prob dan.
Had lots of interesting issues with this mongrol (that's what the garage have called it). Just have a look at some of my threads.
Went up the garage earlier and they showed me the pipe. Not a thick pipe by any means but was surprised with what they showed me.
Will see if i can get some pic's if it's not been thrown when i pick her up tomorrow.

Yeah there's so much info and stories and what not on this forum it's almost impossible to see it all  Pics would be good!

Sorry Dan, couldn't get a pic as pipe gone when i picked her up.
On work sheet is simply states that it was a de laminated intercooler pipe.

As for tow hitch wiring.. no surprise there, all wired wrong and badly corroded.

Still.. she lives a bit longer and i can at least use a trailer without blowing all the fuses now.

Upwards and onwards.

That's ok mate, with the power of google it might have looked like this:

That is off a 300TDi, bottom I/C pipe.

Good to hear you got it sorted without too heavy a repair :)

yeh.. something like that, but was more like half the pipes inners drooping down and ok the opposite side. Pull it and the whole inner slid out from the pipe. Almost as if it was just one pipe slid into the other.

Now i've also found i need a new headlight lol. Does it ever end.
