Hi, my D4 SDV6 has done 104,000 miles, fully serviced and no previous issues. Recently noticed a ‘clack clack clack’ suddenly coming from the engine and need to diagnose it. It happens when engine is cold or warm, frequency is proportional to engine revs (it gets quicker when revs increase, then slower with gear change up). Sound appears to coming from about waist high on the engine but hard to tell.

Please listen to this video and let me know if you can help!

D4 clacking noise

Sound like big end tap, doesn't sound loud enough to be broken crank, but as above dont drive could be a much cheaper fix at this point

Thanks - sound advice! I’ll trailer it to the garage. Unfortunately I’m in France and JLR main dealer is my only option (locals drive Japanese kit). Just to prepare myself, if it’s a big end tap, or a crank, what kind of money would you expect to pay for the job?

JLR will probably only replace engine for you these engines can be saved but is cost and finding someone to rebuild presuming it's not beyond saving best of luck
