HI all im at side of road...my 1996 disco 300tdi 2.5L engine temp. maxx!!...coolant boiling like hell!!....bursting out from the coolant tank(plastic one) cap which i tighten up just this morning....just yesterday change the plastic tank coz the seal leak in the middle part, fill up water n coolant...now im in the middle of nowhere dunno wat to do....can anybody help me...i need to know wat should i do now....theres no mechanic nearby...so i got to moved the truck by hook or by crook to get any help....ps:i already fill up again the tank this morning but dunno why water boiling n bursting from the tank cap:confused::confused::(........tq v muchhh in advance....
 
EEkkk..How far from home are you? If you cant get it towed and you havent got far you need to let her cool down a lot..then fill with water/coolant and go very slowly a short a distance as possible and get help. You may have head gasket failure...you WILL have head gasket failure if you drive her hot and no water..
 
thanks storm for ur prompt reply....this may sound ridiclous but anyway i got to ask...what is the correct way to fill up the coolant...coz the mechanic yesterday mention to me about gas in the tank ...and there is header tank and 2 more entry point for coolant ...one on top of radiator and another one is near/top of engine....so how should i go abt this ...thanks...
 
Yes..you have lost a lot of fluids..get some in there if you intend to drive it..fill it slowly and as said when engine is cooler.

But i was told to fill at both the tank AND the thermostat housing/bung to get all the air out??????
 
Getting all the air out is least of his worries at the mo...its a short term fix to get him to a garage/tow/home so he can assess damage and repair.

was going to say the same earlier dave (topping up through radiator & thermostat bungs) but then thought about the situation:

Getting all the air out is least of his worries at the mo...its a short term fix to get him to a garage/tow/home so he can assess damage and repair.

There is, if i remember correctly, a vent plug in the rad...but he's cooked the engine by the sounds of it, so arsing around trying to get the coolant level right is a bit..well, horse, stable door..

When its mended..:rolleyes: he has to fill it up, then top up through the thermostat to get rest of air out...
 
i got at least another 50kmto get help....so help me GOD....:5bbanghead:

You need either

a) Lots of water and coolant

b) a tow

I'd go for b as you may cause all sorts of problems if you haven't already...eek..sorry mate.
 
My bad, i wasn't thinking about having no tools to get the bung out etc, as was said, if its blowing all the the time it dont sound good.

If any way possible, get a tow, i really dont envy being in that situation although it does seem you have internet conectivity.
 
If its any consolation..

My head gasket went on a 2.5n/a and i drove 100km at 50km/h stopping every 15 km to fill up with just water..i got home...however i knew i was buggering the engine...needed to be skimmed etc etc...but i got home....
 
ok thanks guys.. no tow service here and at this time 2140H...so i got 2 gamble n tke my chances...n drive like sick horse or worst donkey till reach help....anyway couldnt ve done that without all ur support guys...thats the spirit i love here...p/s VIA SATPHONE....

hi all im still alive ....but my gal is pretty much dead though...n its letting me down ....i just wish shes ok n running like wild horse again....so i need ur guys help again to find wats her exact or the most probable cause for her cooling system failure....the cronology of wat had happen and the symptoms as follows:

a)i bought my landy more than a month ago...everthing ok coz was using for short distance in town only...

b)after 2 weeks the hose for power steering fluid breaks causing major leak..so change the hose n settle the problem ...nothing to do with current defect!

c)just after that i noticed a small leak at the seam of header tank...so i tot its just small problem...so i just top up water if its running low...coz the leaking wasnt bad...mmm

d)this week(tuesday) i took her for the first long ride .....thats where the problem start...after abt 200km ..the temperature was hell hot so i immidiately i park her alongside the road...was hissing n boiling crazily...for abt 30mins after i stop her engine...

e)the obvious cos was visible...water coming out fm the seam of header tank....so after engine cooled off...i duct taped the seam for temporary...and filled her up with water...and moved her again...thanks god reach the destination which is another 200km plus.....i stop once a while to check the seam n off coz.. it was dribbling water...but i just kept on going co the temp was ok.....

f)so the next morning (wednesday) i went to a radiator service centre...coz i tot radiator blocked or something coz...when she hissed n boiled all the crap came out ..the water was in brown in color...kike milked tea ..n i tot the rad must be clogged ...but i didnt service it coz it will take at least one day...so i just opted for a quick flush..which i pretty much regret now...

g)after the quick flush i changed the header tank ..which in this area pretty damn expensive....like 100 pounds equivalnt...that guy must be damn rich making money selling landy part here mmm..so anyway i got 2 buy it though coz only that shop selling it ..so ok changed the tank n filled it with coolant n water ...now i was relieved coz tot after the spending tot all was done right n goOOD 2 GO!

h)so ok i took her up hill like 70km or more for a mountain view camping...no problem just nice ....

i)thursday..continue drive futher up about 30km....n suddenly the temp went like HELLL....so immediately i parked alongside road and check wat happen now!!...n u know wat i guess right..it was header tank cap...water coming out fm it.....boiling before and after stopped(off) the engine....oh F#$@.....i said GOD...why ....mmm then i got to wait till she cooled off...n i fill her up again....coz no help around...n moved back to resting place.....

j)i got to push off that nite...so i just filled her up n move her ...just after 20km the temp goes madddd....water boiling inside the header tank...n coming out fm its cap....so i got some tips fm u guys n moved on....thanks 2 all u nice guys...

k)now reaching the city...all shops closed...holiday here....now im thinking wats her real problem....is it the head gasket the big culprit as mention by our good fren mr storm...or the radiator or ...maybe there is other hidden problem.....


can u guys help me out here...some ideas n input on how to settle this problem....coz im now in other place not my hometown....but only here got all the parts for landy...so i got to do alll the fixing here n now...to make sure i get back to myplace which is 500kkm away.....so i got 2 know wat 2 look for n wat 2 fix...b4 tht shop guy tell me all hell and bunny stories ..mmmmm thanks guys :confused::confused:
