Hi im quite a newbie to the site joined last week, anyways i'm having problems with my 2003 defender 90 td5......
every now and then i cant get into gear while driving but if i pump the clutch it will go into gear. what the hell is wrong with it?, please help

Check the level in the clutch master. If it needs pumping, there could be a leak so have a look to see if you can see any weeps at unions and seals.

thanks ill check tomorrow, also it doesn't happen constantly its just every now and again as in im driving along just fine then all of a sudden i cant get a gear, it did it the other day in second and today in fifth

Sounds as though it could benefit from bleeding through.

If the fluid is old it becomes contaminated with moisture over time, so renewing the fluid might be all that's needed.

Yep I would say renew fluid bleed it through I had the same on the wife's car the old fluid was filthy renewed it bled it and it solved the problem

Hi again i've sorted it thanks, first i checked for any leaks but couldn't find any so i bled the system that didn't work so i opened up the master cylinder and there was black crap in it probably the rubber seal worn, so went and bought a new one, fitted that then i couldn't get any pressure in clutch pedal so decided to change the slave cylinder and hey presto all back to full working order and the clutch pedal is also a lot lighter now too, happy days.
Thanks for all the replies.

Welcome to the board and Land Rover ownership. I am a Series guy but the problems are all similar. You will find that there is always something wrong with a Landie. Just add it to the things to do list and enjoy the tinkering.

Thanks divie, im enjoying it already, love tinkering. i'm on with sorting a stereo and some speakers at the moment to keep the kids happy
