Hi All

I am trying to get my mates disco running as it died last week after loss of power and lots of black smoke.

since then i did the following:

Replaced the air filter
removed and cleaned the EGR valve
tighten the rocker cover as oil apeared to be leaking from around the joint.

It then ran fine for approxamatly 100 miles and then died with lack of power but little black smoke. When i looked under the bonnet i found exhaust gasses leaking from the exhaust manifold. So i have since replaced the following:

New exhaust gasket
new rocker gasket
New rocker shaft (found the old one in 4 peices)
Replaced all the push rods found 2 bent.
replaced the turbo hoses with silicon ones
blanked off the EGR valve

(i did observe oil running out of the hose from the breather filter on the rocker to the air/turbo hose)

and again she ran and pulled fine, he did the school run 5 mins and then when he took he down the road and she got up to temperature she agin gradually lost power and smoked (he did manage to drive her home slowly)

i am running out of things to check now the only thing i can think of now is the wastegate on the turbo.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Hi Rob, well it sounds like you've looked at the usual suspects, but have you cleaned the fuel sedimenter? Also have you replaced the fuel filter?

Oh yes should have said it has had a new fuel filter and an injector flush through it. I haven't cleaned the sediment bowel could that cause black smoke I can see how it would course loss of power.

Still I will clean that tonight.

Just in case you're not familiar with it; you'll need an 11mm ring spanner to remove the retaining bolt, something like an ice cream box to catch the diesel that WILL come out. You may find the bowl is stuck onto the rubber seal and needs a knock with a rubber mallet or similar.

Usually you find various pond-life in here!

DO NOT touch the white plastic tap on the bottom - it WILL break.
