yeh it does bounce around alot but it has for a while now but was told it was due to the bigger tires... but im going to guess this was a lie lol

Sounds like Storm99 was (he often is, if you read properly) right ... ;)

Alternator, small lead un-plugged and touching or covered in ****e, plus maybe alternator bearings/windings going west. Happened to me, swapped out for a new 100amp alt and all was well again .. ;)

Makes the rev-counter bounce about, battery stops being charged or gets over-charged (which is worse), all sorts of electrical gremlins pointing at all sorts of ****e which 'mysteriously' clears up when alternator fixed/replaced.

I had similar problems, found my alternator was going down, the bearing had collapsed that keeps everything working and not touching at the diode end. Had to run on battery till it went flat, on Exmoor at the time, new alternator fixed it, might be worth a look.

Well guys I think I'm going to put a new alternator on it.. Ive tried all the connections and found nothing. I'd just like to thank you all for your help and support!!

If I might suggest something before you spend money on a new alternator, consider getting a new ignition switch.

The only problem I had on my TDi 200 was a series of apparently unrelated electrical gremlins such as central-locking and alarm misbehaving; bad starting, light problems, wipers sometimes didn't work.

It was all down to a dodgy ignition switch; took 2 minutes to change and afterwards all lecky items worked properly again.

I bought mine from Paddocks -about £28 iirc.

It might be cheaper to take off the existing one and get it refurbished - new bearings, slip rings, regulator and brushes. Shouldn't cost a fortune at a local auto electrician or you can do it yourself. The other option might be to bite the bullet and get a new alty and then refurb your existing one so you will have a spare.

Well I really need to sort this now.. After not having a problem for a few days I got in got in today and had dash lights but as soon as i turned the key a relay clicked and then nothing!! Gona try get a ignition switch tomorrow for 30 quid I think i will just bite it and give it a try

Thanks

well today was the worst day of my land rover life... went to my local parts supplier... picked up a new ignition switch... half way home and my master cylinder went...
