It is a little known fact that many vehicles used to run the bosch ve pump and they had no extra lift pump, relying totally on the ve internal vane pump.
I got sick of lift pump failure (90 still ran/started fine just down on power at higher rpms) so I removed the block mounted lift pump and fitted a Facet unit, weirdly Facet switched on or off it runs the same, ie quite well, so the mechanical lift pump is needed in extreme situations, but when it fails it actually causes extra resistance!

From looking on other posts I’ve noticed manny people said they aren’t actually needed which is worrying me why mine is running so lumpy and dying especially both high rpms and idle

Chuck a new one on and see what happens, no point worrying, it is only money you will get used to it, or see sense and buy a normal car:D

yeah I’ll get one in anyway I’m Half thinking it might just be full of crap as I was starting to run out of fuel when it happened managed to die for the 3rd time and I got into a petrol station, sadly I probably will have to get rid soon if it carry’s on being a money pit

Well worth checking fuel system front to back before spending money, be suspicious of any rubber hoses or any previous owner mods, pop tank pick up out and make sure pipe is clear and nowt is floating in the tank.
I like LRs a lot (currently have three!) but they always need something doing, and I always have a snag list on the go which never gets any shorter!

Conversely my wife is on her fourth Audi, and all have been seriously good/reliable cars, first one which was an early model had injector probs, fixed by trading it in! but they have only needed regular servicing/brakes/filters etc.

have you got any advice on we’re to start I’ve got a full day free tomorrow so if the weather permits I’m going to have a good go at it all see what exactly is wrong , I’ve been reading up and apparently some lift pumps have filters in ? So it might be worth me checking this along with making sure the fuel tank isn’t full of water because it only started last night after a heavy rain and was left out on the front rather than on my drive which is the side off my house so it doesn’t see much rain , not sure if it’s exactly standard but the fuel is just a metal disk that is a bit naff.
What land rovers have you got at the moment and what Audi has your wife got it’s always nice to hear other people’s .

@Lewi112

Have you pulled the stop solenoid 12V supply ( so engine does not try to start) , loosen the fuel filter bleed screw and then turn the engine over and see if fuel comes out of the bleed screw.

As you have said , some lift pumps come with a mesh filter under the top cover , easy enough to remove and check if it has one, a single central screw. But a lot do not have the filter now.

Cheers

So sorry for the late replies the post hasn’t been so great and I’ve only just got the pump , I’m assuming the issue will be fixed once I manage to get the pump fitted as the old one when I taken it off and tested it was doing absolutely nothing and getting stuck .

I have tired to fit the Delphi pump but for some reason it’s a lot bigger then the original and I can’t get it to sit properly past this pipe ?

I’d say it the Delphi pump is literally 1cm to long
