Hi guys.

I am in the game for a second car. My main driver is a P400E RRS.

However, my other half is looking for a daily driver (x2 kids, dogs, weekend trips, wild camping etc)... and I have seen it as an opportunity to purchase a D2, I've wanted one for years, it's always been a fantasy!

I have found a beautiful example, it's a Japanese import so it is basically pristine condition and currently on 50K miles. Only problem is that it is a 4.0 V8, whilst I have always wanted the Rover V8, in the back of my mind I am worried that it will fund the life of my local Esso manger! Whilst, petrol costs aren't an issue I don't want to be throwing money away, which I feel I will be doing - or will I? The car will be a second car and doing roughly a 50-100 miles a week not including the occasional longer run for weekend trips!

Having second thoughts last night I found a D3 TVD6 for a similar price as the D2 and on 55K miles, one owner from new and excellent condition, it's a S spec.

My heart is saying the D2 but my head is saying the D3...

What are your thoughts? Please help...

Cheers, D

I'd go for the D2, less complicated, and if the fuel costs bother you, you can always convert it to LPG.

THanks! Yes, I was thinking this, although I know nothing concerning LPG conversions. Do you have any idea on companies that do LPG conversions and costs?

Sadly no as mine was done when I bought it. But others may come on and help out. It ain't particularly cheap and even a simple system, you want to factor in the costs and see how long it would take for the fuel saving to repay the cost of installation. If you really aren't going to do that many miles in it then you may well be better off leaving it and just getting used to the cost of the petrol.

Do you think the D3 will be troublesome? It has a FSH with a Cam belt change at 40K...?
I know nothing really about D3s except that they can rust in ways you would not expect and that their engines etc are even more electronically complex than D2s. I prefer the D1s and D2s for their simple practicality. i have never been a bells and whistles sort of bloke.
I live by the rule "KISS", "Keep It Simple, Stupid":)

D2 every day of the week then at least petrol costs will be your only worry.
Agree.
D2 is a decent car and just simple enough to keep on top of without too much expense.
Not had a V8 one so not certain of any motor issues but if motor good then chassis, especially rear, is important.
I prefer no sunroof if you can find one and the rest is cosmetic or minor really.
