Hi I am changing the front abs sensors on my 53 reg freelander .from what I have read I expected to see a metel ads sensor but on my one it is a plastic one held in with a bolt which came out no problem . The right side one is worn on the tip so the metal inner is exposed . Where duse it get it signal from as when I look down the hole I can't see a abs ring .is this a different system to other freelander as I can not find any info in my manuals

If there is no "toothed" reluctor ring, the sensor is getting a signal from a magnetic section on the wheel bearing assembly..the same as my 2002 Facelift TD4 rear wheels.
I discovered this whilst I had the rear hubs off a coulple of weeks ago to do the rear suspension bushes. The rear ABS sensor pick up point is on the side and not on the tip as is the case with "toothed" reluctor rings fitted to the shank of the CV joint.

Thanks for the reply that makes it clearer for me . I think I will have to replace the wheel bearing as it is touching my abs sensor .and wearing the side.:D
