~125GBP sound right for a starter?!
Spent the afternoon under the hood---got all the wires off the starter, cleaned them, steam cleaned the posts on the starter and rewired. The only earth lead was from the battery to the frame---didn't see an earth lead from the starter at all.
Anyways, after all cleaning and rewiring....keyed it and *CLICK*. Tried to jumpstart to off my other car....*CLICK*.
Going to lean forward and get a new starter....found a reman for 72GBP....

PUT THE JUMP LEAD FROM THE BATTERY NEGATIVE TO THE ENGINE!!
I bet you handbrake has gone funny too!
Been trying to find these earths on my 90.starter doesnt need an earth itself it is earthed through been bolted to engine which is bolted to transmission but you must have earth between body ,chassis and engine/transmission all 3 must be earthed together then to battery
There is only one thick earth wire going straight from battery neg to transmission, then no where else, just stops there.usually on a defender it goes from neg battery to chassis then to transmission ,body is separtely earthed to chassis
