Hippo = Freelander
It was said that during the Freelander press launch one of the reporters said the Freelander looked like a hippo (not me) and LR picked up on this and used it in their advertising.

Cost of insurance, tax, mot etc. Especially if yer banned or have been banned in the past, have no job or just don't want to pay it. Saves yer over £1000 a year. Hence why peeps who make number plates have to put the details on it like post code and you have to show ID and have the log book. This has stopped some of the problems. To get round this they nick your plate so you have to get another and they don't. Some plates shatter when taken oft to stop miss use when nicked.I have never heard of that before, and hopefully not happening in the Home Counties. It always amazes me what lengths some people will do to to save a few pounds, creating havoc and misery as they go...
Nowt wrong with liking Hippo's and Freelander's.As soon as I pressed "post reply" I regretted it!! It was a present someone bought me and I though it was appropriate.
Never had a teddy in my car before
Why?A have a teddy hippo in my car
You can get a set of plates sent to you via the web, easy peasy. There are legitimate sites that do it, I've had half a dozen sets ordered online and delivered to my door next day.
I've had six sets of fully road legal plates delivered to my door, no bother at all. Haven't bought a set any other way for years.

We're not saying they're bad people. But if they don't follow the rules they will get into trouble. It's something all plate suppliers have to follow. It's the people who obtain naughty plates which are the real problem. Focusing on strict rules suppliers have to work too is the tool they're using to fight plate crime.Place I use has been around long enough....

The Company manufactures Showplates only. These are manufactured and supplied for 'off road' use only, rally days, car shows, exhibitions and use on private land where the law does not apply. Due to stringent restrictions of trade placed upon the Company by the DVLA, all show registration plates will be sold to the Purchaser on the basis of being for show use only and the Purchaser may risk prosecution if the show plates are used on the UK highway.
May be a small and thought to be trivial thing. But the standards are there to try and stop the potential for illegal activity.
Cheers
Once sold they can't control the use of them so they're just covering themselves. Some of them don't make show plates out of the same reflective material to protect themselves further and to limit misuse on the roads. Others will like my set from about 8 years ago which are road legal type, but with Freelander on them only. More difficult to get hold of now which I think is a good thing.From a "road legal" online plates T&C's
