I'm new to the site and don't generally use social media, so forgive me if I get things wrong.
I'm rebuilding my Defender 90 at the moment. Going OK after initial setback when I discovered it has already been rebuilt as a 300tdi instead of the original 200tdi so I had bought the wrong chassis!
There were a load of minor and major problems, hence the rebuild. I've fixed most of them I think, but it has always had a power steering fluid leak that nobody could find. Running it with the bodywork off I've found that ATF is coming out of the breather hole in the cap of the reservoir.
Is this just because I've overfilled it and haven't bled the system yet, or could it be a blocked filter in the reservoir which has caused the problem in the first place?

Welcome to the loonyzone, mate! :)

Social media? :D

Are you sure it is a defender 90, not a Ninety, pre Defender? They were very commonly re-engined with Tdi after the original TDs has problems.

First point of call on the PSF would be levels. there should be hot and cold fluid marks on a little dipstick in the reservoir. No filters in the reservoir AFAIK.

Hi Yash,

Welcome to the loonyzone.

Great that you have introduced yourself, However if you have a specific question now is the time to pop into the forum ( 90 , 110 ) for your vehicle and ask the question, because you will get more people seeing the problem and maybe able to answer.

Cheers

Yes, that is a good idea too! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

PS Power steering usually self bleeds, IIRC.

Thanks for the hints, like I say I'm finding my way around!
It says "Defender" on the grille - not that that proves anything, but it was registered in January 1992 so I think it should have been a 200tdi. The chassis number puts it as a 200tdi as well.
I'm going to bleed it and check the level is right. If that doesn't solve the problem I'll take it to the 90 forum, thanks Neilly.

Yep. 92 is a defender. Not sure when the changeover to 300Tdi came.
Just drain some out, it self bleeds.

Hi Yash,

Get it onto the 90 forum and give us some pictures , we like pictures on here. plus there are a couple of others doing rebuilds at the moment.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Cheers
