Hiya I'm new to the forum, just thought I would post a bit of info about my experience with the theft of my Landy two years ago.It is proper traumatizing to be burgled but when I realized my Landy had gone I was devastated.
Basically they broke into my house and stole the keys to it and another car (used as a getaway for the gang and ditched three days later). Forensics went through the motions, detective pleasant but told me it was gone for good and to contact insurance company etc, counselling duly offered.
Tea and sympathy are not my style.
I managed to track it down by being obsessed with not letting the b#"£$%^s get away with it.
I spent two weeks obsessively looking on trading sites Autotrader etc.
Luckily I was dealing with numpties who advertised it on Gumtree and Autotrader. It was advertised two weeks later with no VAT (rings alarm bells) and at a very cheap price (of course) They had rung it with a green hard top (its black) They put up pictures,(easy to recognise your own vehicle, scratches n dints and Hillendale badge) The pictures on the advert were their downfall, I downloaded a free programme from internet ,applied it to the photograph and got an address and the date it was taken (think this only works for smart phones) There was also a mobile phone number on the ad. Was advised by Northamptonshire police to go and retrieve it !!!! double Advised them to send an ambulance to the address if I had to do this. Was advised I would be breaking the law .
Anyhow to cut it short,a few days later police decided it would be in the interest of the local population and the criminals to get it back and so my beloved Landy was sent to the pound to be held for forensics etc.. and for me to prove it was mine. (all serial numbers removed) So I took my key ,old photos and other identifying info along, police happy its mine Woohooo ! Insurance nightmare then started .They thought I had something to do with the crime ! because my SIGHTHOUNDS did not bark during the burglary and I had managed to track it down.It took SIX months to get it back after a full chassis rebuild due to ringing vehicle, anyhowz criminals caught -but still two years later as it is a 'floating case ' no prosecution.
However I have my Landy back which was my main concern.Geeeez!!I feel better for the rant
