Greatings all,

My name is Colin, live in Ely, Cambs and am looking at buying a 2000 (w plate) Disco 2. My brother is an avid off roader in South africa with his Disco1 and I'm dead keen to tart up a Landy and try out some green laning, etc.

I've found a neat looking Disco 2 for £1,750, On the bodywork, all looks well however on the test drive, I noticed there is no power steering! Also the ACE light is on amber and there is a puddle of liquid in front of the front left wheel which leads to think there is something at fault with the PAS pump. From what I've read on this here forum is that the ACE shares the reservoir with the PAS, so I assume the issues are linked?

Before buying myself into ruin, I was hoping you kind folks can advise me if I'm heading for a fail or if this is something that can be fixed with what ever change I have from buying said D2. Other issues are balding tyres at the front (hoping it is just a tracking/alignment issue), broken keys and age related wear n tear on the interior. All seam easy enough to fix, yes?

Thanks,

C.

They reservoir is partitioned so no not shared fluid.
Otherwise it sounds like a pile of neglected ferrous dung, walk away

Welcome to lz! :)

D2 are quite a good motor, but I would try and buy something without obvious faults to start with, specially if you haven't run a landrover before.

Try a search in Disco section about common faults etc.

You don't need to tart up a Disco for laning, it is well up to it anyway although the bumpers are a bit fragile.

That is exactly what I would've tarted up:cool:, the front bumper has been through a wack and crack.

My brother will be moving here after Christmas so I'll have some support from a more seasoned veteran, hence my courage to go for it.

Hello and Welcome to the Loonyzone.

Definitely sounds like a vehicle to walk away from unless you like fixing things and you get it dirt cheap.

Cheers

I agree, would walk away from it.

Try and get the best you can afford.. you can then spend money on the more fun bits! ;-)

Wait until after the winter weather, the prices rise dramatically with what is known as 'snow tax'.
