Welcome to lz! :) That is a great motor, and you are a lucky man.

My suggestion would be to get rid of the electric fans, ad go back to standard fan and cowl. Better in every way.

Welcome, another "oldie" original v8 or conversion? 1st job run power direct to fan/s - if they work then you're looking at whatever switches, relays, fuses etc. [or just hard wire one for now] good luck

Much better to get shot of em.

thank you for the welcome, it,s a great site,i would really like to keep the 2 leccy fans on a sepera

many thanks for that my friend, will try that

No worries, most old landies are running on bodges of one sort or another................

it was a diesel but do not know what engine it had, have no clue where the v8 relays or fuses are for the fans

Fun and games, high chance no relays! I'm fairly certain any leccy fan, diesel or v8 will be an aftermarket "improvement" so who knows what's been done. They switch on with temperature yes? not just with the ignition - ie. not permanent on?
Either way you're tracing wiring, just follow it back and things [might] make sense.................. as always, good luck.
@Turboman is right, old school viscous fan is the way to go - I've got one on mine, no worries.

They come on and off with an electronic contro unit, informed by a temperature sensor, either mounted in the radiator, or in one of the coolant hoses.

Generally seen em to be fine when new, after a bit not always so. Control units dont like water, sensors tire. Landrover designed the viscous setup to maybe overcool a bit, because of use in hostile environments. Cowl has a coooling function for the engine as well as rad! And prevents mud and water splashing up in engine bay.

seems like they,ve been rigged to run all the time, no voltage at fan thermostatic switch at all in or out, must have been ignition hot wired ,i suppose, think i,ll rewire with relays and switch for on off and keep eye on temp guage as a mate suggested, and get a viscous fan and cowl asap, anyone got one for sale please ???

Look in the for sale section, you cant post, but you can pm sellers.:)

I bought a viscous fan and cowl off the innernet, from a breakers, was about 50 quid for the two IIRC! :)
