Yeah true.

And from the other stuff I've seen on lz I had gathered that pics were required :p

Hopefully it won't be too long before I find something, but I've got some saving to do
Keep an eye on eBay but look at the parts and accessories as well as vehicles, I bought my tdi a year ago for 510 quid spares or repair and mot'd it on the way home. It needed a wheel bearing :p

Keep searching cos bargains are out there....

Ok, cheers. Just been looking through eBay, were the two that you sent pics of listed on there?
Yeah all were bought off there but I've bought off gumtree before as well. All of the auctions finished at weird times which is always a bonus. I've always bought with the attitude of if it's a munter I'd break it though cos I have been stung before. If you are buying one with the intention of doing it up and putting it back on the road I'd go and look at it first just so you know what you're getting into. Sellers are always vague when it comes to where's rotten. My own one was bought with the intention of stripping it so I could fit the transfer box to my defender but it so nice I sold the defender instead :p

What's your ideal budget if you don't mind me asking ?

Ok, thanks....I'll keep an eye on eBay then :)

What defender did you have?

Ideally if I could pick up something decent for less than £1500 I'd be happy, I don't know whether that is realistic or not?

I won't be buying anything for a good few months yet as money is tight at the mo!

hi and welcome to the asylum

if i may also add , always check out the mot history and a full vehicle check

get some insurance quotes first on ur proposed landy and if u do get a series or fender make sure the security is up to scratch or u won’t have it long

happy hunting

I had a 90 but the discovery suits my needs better. 1500 should get you something decent. What are insurance prices like?

at least with a disco u will get comfort , lol

imagine the ins will be more than the vehicle is worth , 2k ???

think the freelander has the cheapest ins and can pick a TD4 up now for around £500

Wow, I didn't know that about hippos, I suppose there's got to be a plus side to owning one :p

lol, was just an idea for the op , so could at least get some NCB and save some more until getting either a disco or fender

think the hippos were group 21 and can get 40mpg , very easy to maintain and getting some spannering experience before progressing into the bigger landies ;):D

The asylum...I like that one lol!

Yeah, online mot history checks come in useful sometimes :)

That's one reason I'm leaning towards a discovery, as the low life thieves seem to be more interested in defenders.

once you’re admitted there’s no going back, lol

indeed , things like service history and an HPi check a must but imagine you’ve already been told that ;)

was just saying about a freelander , can buy a td4 for around £500 , 2 litre diesel , cheap to insure and maintain, but of course not for me to say if u have ur heart set on a disco , just room for thought

have u had any quotes yet lease, imagine there eye watering

Nice :)

Just had a quick look at insurance on a td5 d2....looking at about £2k give or take a bit. Do you know if a tracker might bring this down?

Also...what are people thoughts on auto vs manual, I will mainly be using the landy at weekends (as I have a seat Leon as my daily driver). Hoping to get into a bit of greenlaning when i get one.

Yeah thanks for the advice on the freelander, I will keep it in mind, I hadn't thought about insurance being cheaper on those.
