Hi guys, I am a newbi here and at the moment don't have a RR.
I live on Anglesey, and I will be changeing my tow car from a picaso to a Range Rover 4.6 with lpg, in a few months.
I feel like I am in my second childhood lollllllllll, always wanted a Range Rover, but never thought we would ever get one .
But She that must be abayed lolllllll, wants a caravan, and so I saw my chance like you do lolll.
And told her you get your caravan I get my RR :D .

So I joined you guys, to get as much info, and advice as I could, on my new to me soon toy.
Haveing read a lot of diferant things can and does go up the creak with RR I have been a bit conserned.
But most cars get the hikups now and again:( lollllllll.
But as for a tow car you can not beat a RR and that is why we need one, as well as the litle boy in me want's his dream car lol:D :D

we are looking at spending £3,500 to £5,000 on my new toy.
Been looking on ebay, and on autotrader website.
There was a few on last week but all sold this week.

So any advise will be greatfully receaved.
OH GREAT FORUM BY THE WAY

eyup - welcome to the house of fun

try asking down in the range rover section - they'll give you loads of advise

Helloo and welcome to the mad house where abouts on Yns Mon are you? Oh and lose the LOL's not cool.

Hi Red Head, have you got a range rover or ??.
What do you think of them ?
I am a bit conserned cos some say they are a expensive thing to have, and not very relyable.
So you moved back to England then WHY Wales is a great place to live, that is why we travel with a caravan to England ha ha HIDEHI Campers

No got a disco much better than a rangey, cheaper to Run and repair. less to go wrong. and as they share the same chassis will go anywhere a rangey will go. That's just my personal opinion mind. Also I Prefer diesels as I can run it on 70/30 vegoil/diesel at less than 70p a litre and gets about 30/34mpg.

I left Blaenau cos it was full of nationalist racists. The lass I was with was a local and they took great offence to her living with an incomer. So we buggered of to Kettering. but it didn't work out she went back to blaenau and I went to torquay. but now back up north in leeds at the moment.

I was in the same boat a while ago - was gonna get a range rover - but was put off by the scare stories (most of which are true ) - most of the range rovers I looked at had some kind of problem - ended up getting a disco TD5

yes, the range rover is a nice luxury car - but it WILL break down & cost you a lot to put right - just to give you an idea there is a 'reliability index' based on the number of faults reported for a make of vehicle/average time off road for repairs/average cost of repairs etc - the average for this index is 112 (if a vehicles' index is lower than 112 it is more reliable than average & if it's above 112 it is less reliable than average )

a range rover has a reliablity index of 303 :eek::eek:

main reported faults are air con, air suspension, cooling & heating system & electrics. The average cost of a repair is £575

reliability index for a Disco 1 is 152 & for a Disco 2 131

if your max budget is £5000 and you want a range rover , get one for around £3500 and save £1500 to spend on it in the first year because you will need it.

£5k will put you at the bottom range for a disco 2 td5 but you should be able to get a top range (es spec) disco 1 for that.

an ES spec disco has all the luxuries of a range rover (leather interior, electric seats, climate conrtol etc.) but is a LOT more reliable.

the disco is a great tow car - a few weeks ago i did 10 days towing a fully laden caravan around Wales with 2 adults, kids & 2 dogs & my disco permorfed great.

just my opinions anyway ;)

Hi we went to look at a c reg 3.5 RR with LPG it was in good condition for it's vintage, ran good on the test drive, down a rd that was not a road if you know what i meen lol.

Hi guys well I found a Range Rover classic 1986 EFI 3.5 WITH lpg cert on a C plate.
And the last digets on it are my wifes and my Initials.
So went up to see it and wow it is a good one, Runs great, and in good condition, checked the floor and sills, the rear talegate has a bit of rust on it but that may be a diy job for me, or a new one fited.
got to get a plug for the caravan batery, but great tow bar and roll on next yr caravaning here we come.
This RR will tow my caravan like there is nothing behind lol.
Been advised to fit a alko stabiliser on the caravan hitch, so that can be done next yr.

Hi guys, well you were right about the range, we got one a 1986 3.5 efi, and guess what it broke down, naf gearbox, naf cluch and a knock in engine when the mec sorted the fireing, it was quiet on 6 cils but on 8 boy what a knock.
But as chance had it, a mec friend that worked there, had a customer who had seen the range, and had the parts to fix it.
he had a 1994 Disco tdi, for sale and took the range as part ex.
Been runing the disco a bit today and it runs great, jest been mot'd 3 weeks ago.
no probs, new sills fited, cambelt done at 30000 miles back.
Runs great, plenty of poke lolllll.
body is in good con, and engine is great.
gearbox and cluch are in ex condition, not like the old range, i will mis it NOT.
Have any of you got a owners handbook for the dosco,if yes then please would it be pos for you to copy it, on scaner, and email it to me at

Hi Guys, I part exed the 89 Rangy for a 1994 Disco 2.5 TDI A FEW WEEKS AGO.
The rangy had to much agro with it, And the Disco has done over 2000 miles in the last few weeks with no probs.
And It is a great mover, not tryed it with the caravan on tow as yet.
I am going to fit a new Alko Stabiliser on the caravan this month, as it don't have one on it now.
Have read that with the spare wheel on the back of a 4x4 may have to get an extra fiting for the ALKO, is that true with the Disco guys???.

Happy new yr from Gwil

dont think so but cant remember if me old man had one fitted. You'll find hitchin is a bit of pain cos the spare wheel is over the a frame making access to your jockey and hitch a pain but not anything more than a inconvenice.Wont you be changing yer towball for that hitch any how?Ask where yer buy yer new one from just to be sure
