Hi to all. Just following forum best practice and introducing myself before launching into questions and answers. As mentioned in 'title', I am a new member with a difference. The difference being that I am totally blind. Now, I can imagine some of the comments following the lines of 'how can you carry out work on a Land Rover without any sight', 'It is impossible to do that without sight' etc etc. Yes, it is difficult at times, easy at others. The fact that I was a qualified mechanic prior to losing my sight helps enormously, but my determination not to be stopped doing what I love doing best is the main driver. Nevertheless, certain elements do pose problems and at those times I enlist the help of a friend or relative, but in the main I work alone. The most problematic issues are when coming across an unfamiliar system or configuration that, in workshop manuals, is mainly described with photos and no written commentary. In those cases I then need to ask what might normally be considered as 'stupid' questions to understand the system/configuration. The old saying 'a picture speaks a thousand word' is not really helpful to me, although I would agree with this if I could actually see a picture. So, that is what essentially makes me 'different' on this forum and I hope that everyone will excuse me in future posts if I ask those 'stupid' questions? All the best - JG

Welcome to LZ! :)

Sounds like a commendable effort to pursue your interests in difficult circumstances. I imagine you will get a good deal of help on the forum, many of the members suffer from various medical issues.

Many thanks Turboman, Looking forward to asking silly questions that probably have simplistic answers, but really really important to me.

Hi Majon,

Yes, my daughter takes me out and we go 'off-road' on private land - great fun! Well, at least for me, not sure about my daughter - been told she is going prematurely grey, but I tell her it is her age and not my driving!

JG

Welcome :)

Hope your not planning on driving it

Good luck and loads of help here.

J

Wow :)

Not sure who’s the bravest, you or your daughter. But as long as you enjoy that’s what matters.

Got any pics of your landy, we like pics of landys here.

Hi and welcome!

Well done for sticking with something in challenging circumstances, particularly where others would have thrown in the towel long ago. There’s lots of help and advice on here if you do find you need help though. Nothing wrong with going grey early, I’ve done it, but that’s down to genetics!

Definitly my daughter, she is the one that can see what is coming up - I don't know until I hit it! Daughter is teaching in Surrey at present so can't get any pics at moment, but will do when she is on half-term and comes up.

Hi there and welcome
I drove a 110 round an obstacle course once, while blind folded! Someone in the passenger seat telling me where to steer etc
