Hello, I'm ED. I dont yet own a Landy but after secretly admiring Defenders for years, my OH made a glib remark last year along the lines of "you should sell the van and get a Landrover"...It was during the evening otherwise I'd have driven her straight over to our local dealer...however a common sense approach and a bit of life gettingin the way means I've been doing a bit of online research (as well as lurking on here) as to what it is I'm after. Oh, and obviously spotting more and more Defenders everytime I go out...

And that vehicle is a Defender 110 5 seater....enough room to fit us and both kids in, as well as bikes & tents and stuff...and the load space would come in handy for a second business I run...

ANYWAY...since then I've been humming and hawing about the pros and cons of buying new/nearly new/pre registered or second hand...the vehicle will be a long-termer, relatively low mileage throughout the year used for day trips into the hills, with one or two longer distance journeys for camping trips a year with my young kids.

I guess what I'm really asking is, if we can afford it (just about) is there enough reasons NOT to buy new/nearly new? Are the changes to the newer Defenders reason for spending that much more(looking at circa £28k) for a 12 plate.?..is the change to 2.2l engine a good thing long term(Unless I'm wrong the emissions have come down, which means a drop in vehicle excise duty?) - or would I be better of saving dosh and buying an older model?

Sorry for the ramble, any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers ED
