My stop start is disabled by using high drain equipment items, eg heated front scree (you probably have this on a HSE). Also if the battery has been drained eg by frequent stops and starts it also won't kick in. Thirdly I'm told that stop start doesn't function during a DPF regen. I can't tell when that is on mine so not sure if that's correct but it makes sense. Op have you had a decent run in your vehicle?

Yes I had a decent run in it, Lancaster to Settle and back so should of had charge in battery. I have got the gist now so I am good with the ECO thing... Its the steering issues I am more worried about. when turning a right hand bend the wheel pulls and jerks, there doesn't seem to be any unusual sounds or anything . Asked the garage to check the bearings as suggested on here.

Yup - the same - it only works if battery is really good.
