Greetings to all Disco owners. Mine is a TD5 XS auto registered May 2001 - yes, just two months too young to avoid the new punitive VED bands, as I discovered just weeks after buying it.
Since I bought my Disco in March 2001 (from a bandit who was knocking out dodgy BMWs and probably saw me coming), I have had the following work done:
New rear air suspension units - sat down at night and then new one went bang, so two new new ones
New front brake discs & pads - warped, giving a nice steering wheel wobble
New radiator - >1 litre of coolant a week
New fuel block - dripping diesel all over the place
It's in today for its 72k service and it now needs:
New starter motor - failing
New water pump - leaking like an incontinent donkey
New front suspension lower bushes -rattly
New auxiliary drive belt - oops, no aircon, alternator etc
New rear diff oil (it's got water in it) - grinding my gears to pieces
Having had TD5 Alive's ECU remap by post done (which was definitely worthwhile), I discovered oil in the harness, a classic TD5 treat, so that's a new injector harness as well.
Oh yes, and the brake discs are playing up again, just 5k miles after being replaced, so back it goes to have them re-replaced, hopefully under warranty, but 87 miles away to where I used to live.
Although I'm an above-average DIYer I've never dabbled seriously in car mechanics, but I can see that with a LR it must really pay off. It's more expensive to keep on the road than a boat on the water - and I've got an old one of them, too.
My Disco is a great vehicle and workhorse in many ways, but boy does it like having money spent on it.
