Hi, after a long search looking at distant Landies at fanciful prices I recently bought my very first one locally off eBay for £2k.
Bought sight unseen (despite only being 4 miles away!) it turns out to be a reasonably straight and sound vehicle. It's a '79 Series 3 petrol SWB Hardtop with windows (grey with white hardtop) and is totally to original spec, perhaps apart from the Fairey o/d.
I use it locally for 'dogs and logs' duty (well the wife was getting sick of me using her Mazda like a skip) and it can best be described as like driving a tractor wearing a shed. I'm reliably informed by a couple of Series owning friends that its fine - 'they are all like that, honest'.
Currently grapling with headlights which have given up on dipped beam. They worked when I got it, but first the offside, then later the same day the nearside packed in. Main beam is fine, and as they run off the same fuse I guess that isn't the issue. Bought a set of Wipac Halogen lights to replace the ols sealed beam jobs, but now fitted they have the same issue. Any clues gratefully recieved as I haven't a clue with electrics.
Oh, and it leaks petrol everywhere when I fill up.
