Hello, Im new to Landies (currently have a Disco 3) and looking to get a defender. Just posted a 'which defender' thread as it seems there are more versions than Clintons explanation of Benghazi.

Looking forward to learning more about our British icons

:welcome2:

Its a capable Vehicle the Defender, its just a shame that in the last 10 years its never really had the engine its deserved,

Although the engine bay is quite roomy should you wish to shoehorn an American lump in

Welcome, defenders are overrated stick with the disco if you like your creature comforts lol

Considering that the D1 was a 110 with a new frock and some toys I think you can all hush up lol and the D2 was on a Range Rover chassis,

The Defender is/was a piece of agricultural machinery, basic, but can be fixed with a set of basic tools, don't expect speed or comfort, much like camping beds and an ichy blanket, its designed to make you realise how lucky you are,

The Disco is a comfy 4x4 used mainly for school runs or mid range businessmen driving far too fast on the motorways :D:D:D:D

Welcome, i am not far from you, over henfield way. Bit of flooding round your way recently lol

oh and get a defender :D

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I may just have to chop it in for something a bit more basic. Just picked it up after a simple alternator change and it cost me over 720 quid. Ouch.

60 quid for picking it up, plus the alternator and belt / coupling which had seized up. And of course the damn VAT which is a whopping 20% isn't it? I just moved back to the UK and can see how much of an issue it really is.

I have an airbag light on as the Rotary coupling has gone on the steering wheel and thats over 200 quid. Oh, and the EGR valves need replacing, so at a minimum I need to blank them off. Could do that one myself I suppose.

really? **** the bed.

Makes me think, there are a few of us around west sussex, perhaps we should do a pub one evening or something in the spring

Hello Henfield and Horsham! We've needed a land rover recently haven't we? :)

Blimey, another theft? I was just reading that police advisory on another thread!

How do you stop a defender getting nicked then? Immobilizer?

Yes, we should meet up, its not like theres a shortage of pubs around here is it? After 7 years in Florida drinking god awful chilled american beer, a pint of harveys does the trick mmmmm

look for clutch claws, pedal locks, diskloks and suck like. Also think about getting some hidden battery switch etc and whenever you leave it pasrked stick the transfer box in neutral - 2 gear levers can confuse the scrotes.

also look at something like skytag, although that doesnt help stop theft it can help recover you vehicle quicker if it does get lifted

Sorry I can't answer that :)

Skytag and Pedal locks area a good start,

In short your not going to tsop them taking it if they really want it,

best you can hope for is minimal damageand its sat where you left it

oh and the other thing is parking it sensibly, perhaps blocking it in with other cars, or making it difficult for them to get anything near that they can lift it or drag it with (another 4x4 or a hiab or something).

You can also get security posts to go at the end of your drive, depends what your house is like. PIR floodlights etc where you park it, CCTV camera if you want.

basically you want to make it a ball ache for them to get it moving so they give up and go nick the unsecured on down the road.

Hello!! Handcross here but do some work in billy every now & then and pulborough every week :)
