Hello all. I've joined as my 16 year old son loves land rovers. While his mates wants clio's astra's etc, he wants a series 3 or early defender!! We're looking for one that needs a small amount of work. Good mechanics but not bothered about bodywork LWB or SWB petrol or diesel

Can anyone tell me what to look for, as in rot etc. If anyone has got one for sale just contact me please. Looking upto £800. We live in the midlands. Thanks to you all

:welcome2::welcome2: That's all of it apart from the shell, they are slow, thirsty, cold and drafty, let rain in like you'll never believe, but a bloody nice vehicle if you can put up with all that.
Do a search for young driver insurance, don't ask on here cos you'll be :flame2::flame2: big time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Great. Sounds like a nice comfortable vehicle. Real bird puller!! What do you expect to get mpg on a 2.25 petrol.

12 to 20, though you (your son) will need a featherlight right foot to get anywhere near 20. ;)

Looking at an 1983 88 diesel Saturday. Looks very tidy. Would it be worth putting power steering on this model? Thanks for everyones replies so far!!

Just bought a 1983 88" diesel. Collecting next week . Looks very solid all round. I've tried putting a picture on as my profile picture but no joy yet. What do you think. Thanks for all your help. Get ready for many more questions!!

Did you get underneath and have a damn good poke around?

Yes I did. Basically it's been restored by someone who has had land rovers most of his life, and very solid. It was done for his Grandson but the grandson changed his mind. I checked the bulkhead, chassis etc. It had been dry stored for many years and has only got 80k on it. Took the chance with it having no MOT but still prepared to throw some money at it.

Was it a green one with Maxxis tyres ? Or bfg's it were one or the other if its the one I'm thinking of
