hello folks, got my first disco in march this year, its a 1997 tdi. but after having a ford maverick for two years , which turned out to be a right heap of s---. have come across what i think is a problem with my disco.
when the rear of the car is raised off the floor both wheels spin even if its in gear and the hand brake is on and even in diff lock.
is this normal or is the diff shot?
as it didn't do that on the mavrick.
please help
Nick

Sound like the the handbrake to me, what gear are you trying this in.

I pulled out a 3 ton fork truck that was stuck the other day, I was in low first, didn't realise until after that the handbrake was still on.
If you're in low range it's quite easy to overcome the handbrake.

When you had diflock on was the light on the dash lit up, may also be worth checking that the diff lock is actually engaged.

sorry dont think i explained that right. the car was jacked up and wheels spun by hand. make sense?

The diff lock only locks the center diff, if you jack up the rear and turn one wheel the other wheel will turn the other way, that's how a diff works.
