hi everybody

i have had my 2005 freelander td4 automatic for 4 years now and not had any problems with it.
Last week i had proper problems with the engine and now told by my local garage that a new engine is required, best noise to discribe it was it sounded like a bag of nails rattling around under the bonnet.
i have no doubt that a new engine is required, but does anyone know what type of money i should be paying for a replacement plus fitting.
i do not mind having an engine out of another freelander, to help bring costs down.
i live in the derby / nottingham area so would welcome any suggestions on where to take this vehicle for any work
thank you in advance

hi

is it petrol or diesel? getting an engine isn't too difficult, you could go the breaker route, e-bay or, if you are planning to keep the FL for some time, one of the advertisers in the various LR mags.

Never done one but I assume any decent "spanner monkey" type of garage would be able to take out the old one & fit a new one - are they electronically coded to the car (immobiliser etc.).

Some years ago I had to get the engine in my landcruiser changed - same engine type (4.2 diesel) and engine cost me £1200 (used but certified good) and 4x4 garage near me fitted it in two days.

As long as you don't go to a dealer of course
