Hi my name is Tom and I am a newbie, I have just bought a 2000 Freelander 1.8i petrol and am happy to say no problems yet! I live in Hartlepool and am 59 years old and married to Hilda and have two sons. I hope to learn from your obvious knowledge regarding running repairs to my freelander, :) regards Tom

Welcome to the forum Tom. Brace yourself for some stick (Freelander owners are a soft target for some) but if you have thick skin you'll be fine. Enjoy your Landy and check your coolant and engine oil more frequently than once a week, your head gasket will go regardless of how well the job was done last time (and I am 99.9% certain that it has been). I hope that doesn't fill you with dread, it's only fair to let you know the biggy for 1.8 Freelanders, I liked mine a lot and was sad to see it go. Get yourself into the Freelander section for loads of good info! :)

wow thank you all for the welcome I know that my freelander has had the head gasket upgrade so already had that problem. Going to have the rear prop removed for the summer to save fuel and not damage the diff. I have found the biggest problem is the drivers seat because it is not adjustable up/down it is a pain in the neck, I am above average hight at 6' 4" tall so you can imagine where my head is (in the sunroof lol
