Hello good people, my question is a simple one (or is it?).I have a 81 series 3 with a 2.25 diesel that seems to run very well , recently had quite a bit of work done overall . Is it worth changing the engine or running with the original? Im hoping to start green laning with her, does this factor in? Thanks for any help and advice , Gary.

Just buy some ear defenders or you'll be deaf by Easter. They're a good engine but slow. I used to compete with a s3 n/a diesel.

You'll get the like it, I've had a series 3 Diesel now for a few years and love it. I do a fair bit of towing and am always happy with it, regularly using low box on some hills.

The only thing it's not good at is towing on the motorways as it simply does not have enough power to allow you to keep pace with the lorries on inclines - you run the risk of getting rear ended by a truck :-(
