i own a 1986 ex millatary land rover 90 2.5 na, this is not only my first landy but my first car.

i have encountered a few problems such as the fuel injector solonoid started leaking, needed to change the bushes and a few more but nothing that costly to fix and easy to do.

i wonder if anybody can help me with a bit of knowlage, i was getting tired of not having a cd player or any music of any kind so i decided to get some speakers, my friend gave me a nice 800 watt amp and a set of speakers to go with it, when i wired it in all was well for a few weeks, but my altinator broke and had to get it replaced, i didnt realise how much my amp was draining the battery so i took it out.

i understand that getting a better altinator will help the situation as well as giving me the power for other accesories i wish to purchase eg: spotlights.

my altinator at the moment is 45 amps but is there a more powerful version for my 90? if so how powerful will it need to be to comfortably run my sound system and other accesories? any advise would be much apprieciated

A 45 amp alternator is pretty **** poor tbh.

Lucas A127 65Amp will fir I think. Check the plugs on the back though.

If you play that at full volume then the amp would draw 66 amps plus whatever the stereo needs 5-10amps plus the rest of your electrics that are running. A serious load I would suggest a lower powered amp or just a good quality radio.

thanks guys, im going to do a bit of resurch to see what ones will actually fit to my model, apparantly the fitting is different on different ages of defender, will keep you posted too see what i find,
