I was wondering if any of you good people could come to my assistance once again, after yesterday’s radio issue (which was my fault) ‍♂️ I sorted it with guidance given..
So my L322 TD6 come to me with heavy power steering, previous owner had changed the servo tronic control valve with a new one but still had heavy steering, so I sent BCM to be tested, he found a fault and rectified also ran up on his test rig and all good.
I have open AND short circuit fault codes showing (which is a contradiction in terms), I have 12v at solenoid while stationary, resistance of 7.8ohms at the solenoid and wiring back to BCM. I am at a total loss to the fault.
sometimes I get ‘normal steering’ for a few seconds after about 5seconds from start up but not often.
I am starting to doubt the pump BUT the codes are throwing me away from a mechanical issue….

Not being a techie, some of your post goes right over my head. However, starting with the simple things have you checked your battery. A miniscule off full charge is enough to send these beasties into a hissy fit. Heavy steering is one issue mine has shown, which disappeared when battery fixed. Dodgy battery will also throw up spurious codes, and have you chasing ghosts.
The second simple things is: which diagnostics are you using. Yet again the L322 can be moody, and will only talk to some units, some she won't talk to at all, yet others she will tell lies to. So diagnostics matter.

Well the battery is an interesting thing, I was told it was replaced last year (I know that is no excuse not to suspect it..) I will drop test it to see if that is throwing an issue.
My techy man with BCM has advised to talk to it with BMW INPA diagnostics as that is what he uses as it’s a 7 series in disguise lol but unfortunately I only have a snap on unit, interesting to know that sometimes lies are told by some diagnostics, I may have to start to follow instinct of not electrical then.

Dont know if it will help but is your Speedo all ok ?

Sounds identical to how mine behaved while driving without my speedo when it was off for repair.

Before I get aggro I rigged up a torque app Speedo from obd and a back up gps signal although didn't stop me running out of fuel ☺️

A big +1. RR's don't like low voltages

Close but no cigar. It's an 5 in disguise ;)
Someone on here, might be @stustrong recommends INPA as he is a beemer lover .

I haven't used a snapon (wait for filthy comments :D) so wondering where does it say these are steering faults?
Interesting that my local indi said mine was heavy but I have only driven mine so nothing to compare it with but imagine the 275/40/20s don't help.

Great news today, had the Autoelctron from Harrogate send me a replacement ‘try it’ BCM and it has fixed the problem!
My recommendation for BCM repairs goes to the Fantastic Merv @ Autoelctron, his contact details are 01423 883513 if anyone needs a good contact.
Thankyou for all of your suggestions also! Team work..

ps so pleased to be able to tuck my strapon away until the next issue…
