When going from a high gear to a lower gear when the clutch is pressed in, I get a klonking sound and it makes the car rock forward momentarily. I have removed the front prop and put it in diff lock so its just the rear drive and it still does it.

Would removing the prop or having a knackered one make this type of noise and motion?

Have checked the engine and gearbox mounts and they look ok. Gears work fine, both high and low and no other obvious signs of anything loose. the exhaust moves slightly but it sounds like something heavier making it do that.

Help or views would be much appreciated.
 
i have something similar on mine , i get it when i come onto or off the clutch and or acceleraqtor and have been told its wear on the splines on the mainshaft to transfer box and its a common thing as on later models they fitted a crossdrilled bearing to allow extra lubrication on the splines ...hope i have remembered that right ...
 
thanks chaps, hopefully the new front prop will sort it. If not, I'll try the back one. after that prepare for a hit on the wallet one would assume

I had the same on mine, was told the same thing so i replaced the transfer box and the mainshaft, and it still bloddy does it:mad::mad:
 
Sounds like u/j's or A frame ball joint..........

first things i would check along with radius arm bushes

What makes you think its the front prop when it still does it with it removed?? Are you stationary when this happens? a possable cause is the clutch isn't dissengaging.
