hi guys heaters just packed up on the 200 disco how much of a job is it to change someone has said its in a unit with the heater matrix ?

cheers

i had a burning smell in the disco yesterday and the blower appears to have ceased to work...... rumour has it that its an all weekend job to get the whole dash out to get the blower out..... there are little fan heaters that plug into the lighter socket on fleabay for arround a tenner...... do these work? im thinking sod pullin the dash apart if i can just plug summit else in.

is a working demister a mot requirement?

Those little heaters that plug in to the ciggy lighter socket are absolutely useless.

It depends on what caused it to pack up. Switch problems can be fixed without taking the dash out as well as replacing the resistor or the relay. If it's your blower motor then it's an issue. Can you turn on your air con? The heater shares a relay with the air and they have separate motors (I think, anyways, mine does..) and if the air doesn't come on it could be that relay. Switch failure is common, too.

RICC: I think you will still need to keep the windscreen from steaming up even if not for the MOT for safety, I think your gonna have to bite the bullet and just do it, Ive no idea how its done so not much help but I may add that sure itll be a bit of a pain in the arse but from experience ive found I always think the job is gonna be much more of a pain in the arse than it actually is, ive put loads of jobs off on my Landy for ages only to find in the long run the inconvenience of the broken part far outwieghed the hassle of doing the job, my door springs for example, I spent 2 years leaning over and unlocking/opening doors, it took 1 afternoon to sort, the 1st thing I thought was "that wasnt so bad why didnt I just do that in the 1st place!" If you get stuck this lot will sort you out.

Its quite easy to replace. Just remember where things go. It was one of the first jobs I did on my disco, so it can't be that hard.

so the problem i have may not be the heater fan then ?

right is there 2 fans under the dash because when i move the switch on the left of the fan speed switch a fan comes on is this the same fan or another because if its the same fan mines fine it must be something else.... other than me buying a relay and resistor aswell im stuck

by the way the heater was working on and off for a couple of days prior but has now give up (and did get a slight burning smell)

any ideas please

I'm assuming that you mean the lever that goes from recirc to outside air then air, if so yes. That tells you the relay is working and that your switch works. Have you tried to turn on the heater on high? If the resistor is bad sometimes the heater will only work on that setting.

thanks mate well tbf the heater only really worked on high the other settings seemed to be the same but its packed up now i may get a quick 30 seconds out of it but the fan sounds noisy like its seezing some times.

I'm not sure on yours, but on mine you get to it by removing air intake grill and the foam filters behind it. It's on the right side,I think. You can see the fan from there too. You might give the fan a push with a long blade screwdriver to see if it's stuck. Sometimes that's all they need. Sometimes.

If it's only worked on high for awhile you may have other issues.
