Evening, I've just gone from a 19j to a 300 and now my heater is apolitically shat. I've fitted the correct sender and this is as hot as it gets and there's virtually no heat from the heater. The 19j came to roughly the same place on the gauge but was lovely and warm.

Where does everybody elses come to and how can I make it warmer:( Cos if I can't then it's ebay here we come cos I aint living with being cold... Are radiator muffs any good, I've removed the fan and replaced it with an electric one and there aren't any air blocks I know of but it's really really cack.

Any suggestions are welcome and no I'm not putting another coat on and gloves and a hat

Hi, I'm having same prob with 19j. I've been reading on here and google and my suspicion is thermostat staying open on rad!- not sure if this is also the case on 300tdi. I left mine idling on drive for a good bit and temp gauge went to just under half way (where it used to go to) but as soon I started driving down the road it went right down again. My heater has never broke records but at the moment it's none existent. Gonna order stat- cold fingers crossed it will sort it!

I have written several threads on here regarding the heaters in my 200 tdi, 110. I have changed four thermostats, three senders, flushed out the heater matrix. installed a 300 watt ceramic electric heater and it's still lukewarm at best after about 25 minutes driving. Solved the problem by buying myself a nice warm coat, scarf and gloves.

In the last six months it's had a new heater matrix which was sealed in, I'll have to look at a new thermostat just to eliminate it, rad muff for now.

How far up the scale do other peoples needles rise?

mine was very poor... i found not washing it after several outings helps, seems the mud has clogged the rad so bad that mine now goes to the top of the white and its lovely and toasty!!

That's too low, thermostat would be top of my list, regardless of heater temperature that gauge is showing that the engine's running too cold.

Completely blocked off the rad last night and this is the result

I think I'll be buying a new thermostat and a rad muff, on a plus point it was warmer in there :D

I put an 88C degree thermostat in mine which didn't make any difference. I wouldn't bother with a rad muff as that also made no difference. The gap between the rad muff and the rad was still too great and the air was still pulled in form the gap. I found a piece of linoleum in front of the rad worked better and cost nothing.
My gauge runs in about the same position, maybe a fraction higher when its warmed right up.

In winter I cover the lower half of rad [200tdi] with a thick card cut to size in a plastic bag positioned tight against rad [lino good idea mikescuba] I also recommend to ever one with an old landy to get an accurate temp gauge that has numbers on it. [TIM a good make]

T'was the thermostat the rubber had perished, replaced it today for a genuine one from Craddocks (although it came in a blue bag) and it's now cooking my leg after a mile and a half:D

The temperature gauge sender however was also out of a blue bag and alas didn't have a 'G' at the end of the part number and now the gauge goes up and down a plenty whilst I'm driving along so I think this will also be on the shopping list

So thanks for the advice
