When I start the rebuild on mine next year I will put time to building a bespoke heater unit
 
I remember reading somewhere of a modification you do, without removing the heater, to get oil into the bearing but can’t remember where!
 
That sounds to me like it is trying to seize.
They are a crap design, they run dry, then the oiltite bush seizes to the motor shaft, then the bush spins in the tin housing, and then its shagged!
Nothings crap on a tratter cos they is awesome..:)
 
Took the whole thing out to check the Motor, it actually looks quite newish underneath, tried it on the Bence worked perfect, put it back in and went back to Squealing, It turned out to be this Bloody white plastic bit, had to cut it down a bit.

...as in the collar was fouling the fan wheel - you can get your hand inside the plastic inlet through the wing once fitted to back of the collar. When I did mine iirc I put silicone on it and ended up covered in the blasted stuff. As @Hicap phill says, glad you resolved it, very satisfying.
