Hi
has anybody upgraded there defender heater matrix as im thinking of doing so , have you found it anybetter thatn the standard one and how much did you have to pay , all answers app

Mine sprung a leak after the 200tdi upgrade. I replaced it with a new Br*sh*itpart one from ebay. £38. Works very well indeed. I think the key is to have a clean water system in the engine bay and that the heater matrix is also clean and in good nick. Also make sure cold air isn't getting in past the heater matrix via the bypass flap in the heater box.

if the reason you want to upgrade the matrix is to get more heat into the cabin then your not going to have much luck - there's only so much heat you can get from a usually cool running engine and as Pat says all you need to do is to ensure that the matrix isnt clear and that the linkages all work

if you want a warmer cabin you'd be better off trying to stop the heat that is avliable viaa the matrix from escaping once it gets to the cabin by checking and replacing door seals etc - in my 89 100 it's comfortable warm after less than 5 minutes runnings, even when it's sub zero outside - you'd be supprised how well a correctly maintained depender heating system can work

Just as a quick question on the subject of heaters, my defender (300) doesnt really seem to blow out much. In my mates when he turns the heater up it really blows well and also warms up within minutes, with mine, i can drive 10 mile nearly before i getting what i would call an acceptable temperature.

How can i tweak it etc to try and get it to blow out a bit stronger? many thanks

maybe yu can write up a "wot to check if yu is freezin ya bollixs orf and all about yu are in bikinis", Sean?

lol. i know...

On a serious note though, what would be your tips on getting my blower to blow more?

Cheers

there's more than enough info on ere already on this topic

might be better to do a write up on how to use the search feature, or posting a link to the specsavers site

There is an idiot answer which may not be elsewhere.

I used to have very weak heating, but i thought it was normal. When I took my instrument panel out to change a bulb last week I found that the fan selector lever was bent by years of people pushing down on it. This meant that I had never actually been able to select the high speed on the fan because it was fouled by the instrument panel. A quick bend upwards sorted it.

Oh how I laughed as I remembered the last five years of cold misery.

It might be worth checking. You don't need to take the instruments off to bend it up and it is made out of ticky tacky......

i iz sure yu sed yu bought sum for £30.

and yu gorra make a profit...........................

a fiver wont get 2 pints of guiness round here

eres a few links about adjusting the vent links and rad/matrix flushing just to prove i'm not totally unelpfull - but me main tip is to stop the heat that is in the cabin from getting OUT
