Can anyone be kind enough to advise if there's any decent video clips or whatever, on removing and changing the heater matrix on Right Hand Drive P38 please?? I've searched & searched, You Tube etc etc but can't seem to find anything relevant to RHD.. Write ups yes, but is there any video/film that may help me avoid moving the steering shaft etc.?
I seem to have removed half of the front of the dash, radio & switches trim etc.. but the matrix is behind all that still.. I can see the aluminium pipes etc, but it's not good for my back down there and I'd like to put in this new Nissenn matrix I have, whilst my BcEMis away being looked at, I thought an ideal time to get under the RHD footwell... but I'm struggling folks!

Titch

Have look at PaulP38A.com

There are dash frame, steering column & plastic parts that get in the way. Best to remove the dash as on PaulP38 website.

So much quicker and easier to just replace the O rings. With slightly thicker ones, they will last at least a decade.

I agree but as if as was in my case the matrix was fubar and leaking then there was no option but to replace it

Indeed yes, but I don't know the history of the matrix...so whilst I was under there and by BeCM is away and winter is approaching...thought I'd do a full job.
What a nightmare too, but, old matrix out & new Nissen one available, all should be good for a decent amount of time...
Incidentally, anyone know if it's important to get either hose the correct way round? Noticing the arrows in the plastic pipe??
Again thanks for everyone's input here too.....!

The pipes should be the right way round for the best results but will work either way round although it may be harder to get the air out if the wrong way round.

Thanks on that yes.. I had worried about bleeding the air.. so, I've bought a new replacement matrix to use with the O rings this time.. so the Nissen one is now 'surplus to requirements'.
If using the Nissen one, with the directional arrow on one of the 'pipes', it did concern me which direction the water flows in all honesty, it's not a straight fit as would have to use 'pipe' to fit.. probably not rocket science, but there's enough going on as it is..
Again, as always, ALL comments received with thanks on my 'dilemmas'..

Bit late now but coolent flow direction is in RAVE, click on the pic.

Thanks Flossie!
I do have Rave, but can't seem to get it to work on my laptop???
But your suggestion is making me trying to work it out... I have it on a CD too, but we're bordering into Rocket Science....
I need my lad to come over...
Thanks,
Titch

If your laptop runs Windows 10 or above, RAVE has to be run in "compatibility mode" Win 98 mode works on mine.

Ah Datatek, thanks.. Ironically I've had the disc for years.. when on my first P38.. and that was always looked at on Windows 98..
Still use that computer every day of the week plus two others in my business, it's 25 years + old!!
However, I think the Laptop is on XP Professional... do I have to get it to accept that??
Could be having to start a separate post on that subject.. it would be nice to show my lad if I managed to do it...
Thanks... again!

The disc should load and run on XP no problem although I have never used the pro version but it should be the same.

No, it's time to ask my lad next time he's over... it's beyond me..
But drained the water all out last night, and flushed it too.
It's an odd feeling having to buy antifreeze today for the refill! I will be refitting the heater matrix tonight time permitting.
I now have another new matrix and having found the original O rings that fell apart, all brittle in my hands.. I suspect that it may have only been them leaking.. but whilst in there, I think it's a good idea to renew all..

I'd leave the antifreeze out until you're sure all leaks are gone. Then drain a bit and refull with antifreeze. The stuff is darn expensive these days, just like everything else!
