Ok so had an issue with overheating on a p38 4.6 and advised rad had a small hole and water pump was leaking so had both replaced with oem parts

Seems now the foot well is also wet and searched on here to find out looks like heater matrix is leaking. Are there really such a hard job to do? Been told 12 hours of labour??

I am due to go away for 2 weeks tomorrow night and worries about the wife having a car that will overheat

Look forward to any idea/ advice muchly appreciated

The offical method is 12hrs as most of the dash and centre console needs to be dismantled....

There are shortcut methods to get the matrix out...check rangerovers.net as they have a couple of good write ups on the process.

I would still budget for a good 4-6hrs to get the matrix out....

Now here is the good news....it may not be a split matrix...the Heater matrix O rings are notorious for leaking....

They are relativley cheap and *quite* simple to do...about 2-3 hrs or so depending on how good you are with the spanners....

It is more likely to be those than the whole matrix....

That being said, if you are going to the bother of getting at it...and you have concern for the matirx...replace it along with new O rings too...

Ok thanks for advice is it ok to run with a leak I know it's a risk but thinking it could wait till I get back.

Now I have replaced the complete interior including the dash so know how that comes out.

I had a search and found the lhd write up on .net but not sure on the rhd applies will have another search

Hate to say yes or no...depends on how bad the leak is....

A few dribbles, you should be OK....s

Soggy carpets - best not to risk it, or top up the coolant every few hours...

Only you can make that judgement

As a quick "Bodge", you could always disconnect the two heater hoses in the engine bay and join them together using a short piece of copper pipe and Jubilee" clips. That will isolate the matrix.
Wear thick socks and thermals if the weather is cold !!!

if its in the drivers foot well on the foot rest it will be the "o" rings i can get them done and dusted in less than an hour but i have done many

Ok rad and water pump on an full of coolant bled and tested for 3-4 hours with regular checking. No leaks and pressure tested up fine. As I haven't owned for long checked history and looks like o rings were replaced 3 weeks before I bought it so could well be left over damp from that

Thanks for all the advice fingers crossed its there now!
